September 16, 2001 FIRST SUNDAY AFTER THE HOLY CROSS Readings: 2 Timothy , 2:1-8
Gospel: Matthew, 24: 1-14 (English & Lebanese):
We celebrate today, the first Sunday after the Triumph of the Holy Cross. It is the beginning of seven weeks that will end the Liturgical year. The main focus of all these weeks, is how to wait and stay alert for the coming of the Lord: "He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end." During this time of the Liturgical year, we focus on the sacrament of the Cross and the waiting, the Lord's Day, perseverance and faith, the judgment and the New Jerusalem, and the kingdom. Seven ideas in seven weeks. We hear, in this Sunday's Gospel the question that the disciples asked: "Tell us what sign will there be of your coming, and of the end of the age?" Jesus' answer in this conclusion: "The one who perseveres to the end will be saved." St. Paul says to Timothy, his disciple: "Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead."

Our Lady of Sorrows
September 14
The feast, popular in the Middle Ages, follows the feast of Mary's birth on September 8. It recalls the special bond between Jesus and Mary and reminds us of the torment and suffering of Christ. Mary suffered greatly as the Mother of God, and the pain she felt was real. The feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, recalls the succession of sorrows Mary experienced during her life: the prophecy she heard from Simon in the temple, the flight into Egypt, the three-day loss of Jesus on the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, meeting Jesus on the way to Calvary, the hours she stood beneath the Cross, the removal of Jesus from the Cross, and the burial of Jesus in a tomb.
Holy Mother, pierce me through;
In my heart each wound renew of my Saviour crucified.Prayer for the Victims of terrorism attacks on the U. S. A. Lord, we come to you on bended knees, heads bowed and our hearts filled to overflowing with so much grief for the many people who been injured and killed in America's crisis.
We ask you Lord, to give courage and strength to those who so bravely go to their aid. And though their hearts will be heavy and filled with sorrow we ask, Lord that You give them the endurance needed to help them through this difficult task.
And lastly Lord, we ask that You allow us to come together as God's children to stand tall and united, so that we might help each other in our hour of need. Amen.Top of Page
