- Readings: Romans, 12: 9-21
-
- Gospel: Matthew, 25: 31-46 (English & Lebanese):
On the Seventh Sunday after the Holy Cross, and before we begin
a New Liturgical Year, we listen to the Gospel of the Last Judgment:
"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels
with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne, and the nations
will be assembled before him
"
-
- We also hear the words of St. Paul to the Romans: "Love
one another with mutual affection
if your enemy is hungry,
feed him." All this week, we hear readings about service
and love. Did we know that we would be judged for love? and loving
our neighbor is loving the Lord?

- All Saints
November 1st
- The feast which has its beginnings in the Christian Churches
of the fifth and sixth centuries celebrates all those saints,
canonized or not, who enjoy the happiness of the of the kingdom
of heaven. Our relatives and friends, multitudes unknown "which
no one can number from all tribes and all peoples and tongues,"
stand before God's throne in joyful praise. They are remembered
this day. God's amazing grace has brought them home. The feast
of All Saints turns our eyes to that "great cloud of witnesses"
who are with God, yet still with us. We share in their love and
are inspired by their example. They attract us to journey to
the Kingdom of God.

- All Souls
November 2nd
The early Christians, like their pagan ancestors, remembered
their dead on certain days of the year. The present date for
our yearly commemoration of the dead was established in the tenth
century. We remember the dead with prayers so that God will "strengthen
our hope that all our departed brothers and sisters will share
in Christ's resurrection." In the words of the Mystical
Body of Jesus Christ, the Church of earth honors with great respect
the memory of the dead, and, because it is a holy and wholesome
thought to pray for the dead that they may be freed from their
sins 92 Mac. 12, 46), she offers her suffrages for them."
Lord God, Maker of all, Master of life and death, guard and gift
of our souls, receive those who go before us on the pilgrimage
of death; in due time receive us too when our days are done.
