FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER THE HOLY CROSS
Readings: 2 Philippians, 12-18

Gospel: Matthew, 25: 1-13 (English & Lebanese):

On the Fifth Sunday after the Holy Cross, the Parable of the ten virgins is the point of discussion: "The Kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom." St. Paul explains in his letter toe the Philippians, that we should be the light and the life to the world. During this week, we listen to readings on waiting, good deeds and light. Do we know that every day we have an appointment with the bridegroom? Do we know that a good deed allows us to be ready for this meeting, and to bear witness and be the light for the nations?

St. Luke (Evangelist)
First Century

Born of a pagan family, St. Luke became a convert to the Christian Faith. He accompanied St. Paul on his second missionary journey and was with the apostle during his final imprisonment in Rome. Paul calls him "My dear friend Luke" in one of his epistles. Luke compiled the third Gospel. He describes at length the infancy of Jesus and his mercy. The great parable of the Prodigal Son in found in Luke. In the Acts of the Apostles Luke relates the beginnings of the infant Church as it develops under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. One tradition says that Luke died in Boeotia, in Greece, at the age of eighty-four. He is the patron of painters and physicians. In art an ox represents him because he begins his Gospel with the account of the priest Zachary sacrificing in the Temple.
Lord Jesus, may we grow in faith through the words of your Gospel.

Prayer
Be deaf to anyone who does not speak of Jesus Christ,
He was ascended from David,
Truly was he born of Mary. He ate and drank,
Truly was he tried by Pontius Pilate. He was crucified,
Truly he died, as heaven and earth looked on. He was
Raised from the dead, truly his Father wakened him.
And his Father will raise us, too, who believes in him
In Christ Jesus; truly we have no life except in Jesus Christ.
"St. Ignatius"
