SUNDAY OF THE ANNOUNCEMENT TO ZAKARIA
Readings: Romans, 4: 13-25

Gospel: Luke, 1: 1-25 (English & Lebanese):

We celebrate today the Announcement to Zakaria. This Sunday is the first in the Advent Season. The Church remembers the incidents that happened before the birth of Jesus; the first one is the Angel's Announcement of John's birth to Zakaria, this birth that will prepare the way for the Lord.

People were waiting for the Saviour as promised by God from the beginning. Zakaria was one of those who trusted and believed that the Saviour is coming. Zakaria was living a tragedy similar to ours; he didn't have children. Although he believed in faith. How do we live our human tragedies? Poverty, pain, distress, disasters, death, was casualties, and revolutions.

God answers the faithful who prays with confidence: "Your prayer has been answered." When God chooses somebody, he does it to give him a mission and a responsibility. John had the mission of preparing the way of Christ. God gives his people ally they need to complete their mission. John was filled with the Holy Spirit in his mother's womb. Do we know how to wait for God's coming into our lives? Do we know how to discover his presence and his work among us, in our daily lives? Do we know how to respond to God's call and thank him for his bountiful mercy?

God you sent the Angel Gabriel to announce the birth of John the Baptist indicating that your Son is coming soon to save us. Light our hearts with faith so we could carry our mission without fear, to preach your sacrament of love. This week I will pray to discover my call in this life by praying and reading the Gospel.

Presentation of Mary
November 12
This feast celebrates the dedication of the church of St. Mary built in Jerusalem near the site of the Temple. According to an early tradition, Mary was born to Sts. Ann and Joachim in Jerusalem, in a neighborhood close by the Temple. At twelve, she was presented there to learn the law of God. The present Church of St. Ann, a favorite place of pilgrimage, marks the ancient site today. The Scriptures which spoke of the "Daughter of Sion" singing and rejoicing in the presence of the Lord probably suggested to ancient piety eager to know the details of Mary's life that the Virgin was born in the city of Sion, Jerusalem. The apocryphal Gospel of James reported the details of Mary's early life, which were portrayed in art by many great medieval artists.

Mary, Mother of God, you are the temple of the Lord and dwelling place of the
Holy Spirit. Help us to please God.
