July 29, 2001 EIGHTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Readings: 2 Corinthians,3, 12-18 Gospel: Matthew, 10: 16 -20 (English & Lebanese): You say: "Come to me all who labour and are burdened, for I will comfort you." What more do we want, Lord? What are we asking for? What do we seek? Why are those in the world so unhappy if not because of seeking rest? God help me! Oh, God help me! What is this Lord? Oh, what a pity! Oh, what great blindness, that we seek rest where it is impossible to find it! Have mercy, Creator, on these Your creatures. Behold, we don't understand or know what than with the man born blind, for he wanted to see the light and couldn't. Now, Lord, there is no desire to see. Oh, how incurable an illness! Here, my God, is where Your power must be demonstrated; here, Your mercy, oh, what a difficult thing I ask You, my true God: that You love someone who doesn't love You, that You open to one who doesn't knock, that You give health to one who likes to be sick and goes about looking for sickness. You say, My Lord, that You come to seek sinners; these, Lord, are real sinners. Don't look at our blindness, my God, but that has so increased; behold, Lord, we are Your handiwork. (*Five Star Hotel) London Diocesan Shrine in honour of Our Lady of the Rosary begins its third year at its new location - St. Patrick's Church , 5773 10th Line Raleigh, near Merlin, Ontario. Pilgrimage Dates are scheduled for July 2, 13 and 16 and for August 13 - 22 (ten consecutive days). The day begins at 11:00AM with the celebration of Holy Mass followed by prayers for the sick, lunch, Rosary procession with a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Benediction. Job Hiring: St. Agnes Parish, Chatham, Ontario is seeking a Director of Music. Part-time position (18-22 hours). Responsibilities include: Plan and coordinate the music program in order to facilitate the full and active participation of the assembly in the Liturgical Life of the Church, prepare choirs for Sunday Celebrations, provide music ministry for weddings, funerals and school celebrations, recruitment, encouragement and development of members of the music ministry. Qualifications include: A Bachelor's Degree in Music, high degree of proficiency in use of organ or keyboard, ability to direct choirs and train cantors, good leadership, communication and people skills. Our deepest sympathies to the Tannous Family on the loss of Antonios Tannous who passed away on Monday, July 23, 2001 at the age of 78. A Funeral Mass was held in St. Anthony's Parish for the rest of his soul on Thursday, July 26, 2001 at 10:00AM. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his wife and children, his brothers and sisters and their families in Canada, Lebanon, United States and Venezuela, especially the Rev. Fathers Bakhos and Joseph Tannous. May God rest his soul in peace and grant consolation for his family and relatives. Our deepest sympathies to the Laba Family on the loss of Adele Laba who passed away in Leamington on Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at the age of 69. The Funeral Mass was held in St. Anthony's Parish on Friday, July 27, 2001. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to her husband and children and their families, and all her relatives in Canada and Lebanon. May God rest her soul peace and grant consolation for her family and relatives. St. Mary's Annual Parish Festival in London, invite anyone interested in sharing in this event in honour of "Madonna Della Libera" (Our Lady of Freedom). On Sunday, August 5, 2001 at 3:00PM, there will be a high Mass in Latin followed by a procession. After the final blessing benediction there will be an socializing in the Church grounds.
