SECOND SUNDAY AFTER EPIPHANY

Readings: 2 Corinthians 3: 7 -18 (English & Lebanese):
In this reading, St. Paul explains that the veil that covered Moses' face was to fade but with our hope in Christ that veil is taken away. When we turn to the Lord, This veil is removed.

Gospel: John, 8 : 12 - 27 (English & Lebanese):
In this Gospel Reading, the Pharisees are doubting Jesus' testimony on his own behalf. His testimony is verified because he knows where he came from and where he is going. His judgement is not based on appearances if he wanted to judge.

St. Anthony (Abbot
January 17

St. Anthony was born in the village of Koman, Upper Egypt in 250. He was born into a wealthy Christian Family, and when his parents died in 269, he and his sister were left alone. About six months after his parents' deaths, while in church, he heard the words of the Gospel: "if you will be perfect, go sell all you have, and give to the poor; and come, follow me and you will have treasure in heaven." Anthony felt as if God were speaking to him directly to him. He immediately left the Church and gave all his property to the poor of his village. Then, after providing for his sister, he left home to follow Christ. About 285, Anthony moved and settled on the top of a mountain where he lived in solitude for nearly twenty years, where he fought his fears. About 305, Anthony came down from the mountain and established the first Christian monastery at Fayum. Everyone who met this shy, quiet man went away with a renewed desire to love God and live their lives joyfully without fear. In 355, Anthony returned to Alexandria to combat Arianism. He died in 356 on Mt. Kolzim.
