- Readings:, Ephesians, 1: -14
-
- Gospel: Luke, 1: 39-45 (English & Lebanese):
The journey of Mary is different from every other human journey.
The rush in Luke's Gospel is a sign of salvation in the horizon.
Didn't the shepherds rush when they heard the good news? Didn't
Peter rush to the tomb to be certain of what the women said?
Mary's direction was the mountains, to one of the regions of
Judea.
-
- Was she on a pilgrimage prior to the one that Jesus will
do when he is twelve years of age? She could've stopped in Jerusalem,
according to the tradition, but she did not. Instead she continued
further than Jerusalem, because Jerusalem was in her wombs.
-
- God's presence is not limited to the great city that did
not know how to greet the one come. Here we remember the man
with leprosy, healed, Jesus sent him to the temple. He came back
to Jesus to glorify God, after Jesus became the new temple where
men meet with God.
-
- Elizabeth discovered this faith in its completion in Mary
who believed in what God told her. This faith was missing in
Zakaria, who represents the Old Testament, but was completed
in Mary who represents the New Testament. This faith will also
transfer to the shepherds and all those who waited for the salvation
of Jerusalem.

- The Immaculate Conception
of Mary
December 8
The Solemn Feast of Mary's Immaculate Conception, celebrated
nine months before the feast of her birth (September 8), recalls
the Christian belief that Mary was preserved free from all stain
of original sin from the moment of her conception by her mother,
Ann. Because of her unique role as the mother of Jesus Christ,
God endowed her with special graces and gifts.
-
- Like a new Eve, she brought new life to the world through
her Divine Son. The feast is also a Reminder that the whole Church
shares in Mary's privileges in some way. For this reason the
feast day prayer asks God to "trace in our actions the lines
of her love, in our hearts her readiness of faith." The
bishops of the United States, with firm belief in Mary's intercession,
confided their new nation to her care under the title of her
Immaculate Conception.
Mary Immaculate, star of the morning, chosen before the creation
began, chosen to bring, for thy bridal adorning, woe to the serpent
and rescue to man. Bend before thy throne at the voice of our
crying, bend to this earth which thy footsteps have trod; stretch
out thine arms to us, living and dying, Mary Immaculate, Mother
of God.
