ELEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

Readings: Ephesians , 3:1-13

Gospel: Luke, 10: 17-24 (English & Lebanese)

There is a constant theme in today's Epistle and Gospel: "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see." What, or rather, was it that the disciples had seen? Jesus. May people say "Would it not have been awesome to live when Christ had lived and to have seen and met him. I sure would have been, but let us not forget how many people actually saw and listened to Jesus and they could see nothing more than another man. But it was a tremendous gift that the followers of Jesus had that they were able to "See" what they did.

Not the physical only, but what they saw spiritually that Jesus was the Son of God. Many people today see what the disciples saw. I am not talking about people who have visions of Christ. Rather I am talking about every Christian who, with eyes of faith, can in all honesty say with St. Peter: "You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God." We have heard this statement so often that we just kind of say "Oh yeah, I know that one." St. Peter was the one that got the right answer. But is it our answer? And more importantly, does this right answer change our lives in any way. Do we "see" or are we too busy looking at other things that are, or rather seem, more exciting.

In our Baptism, we are asked if we reject the glamour of sin, sin is very glamorous. If often "looks" good but is not really good. Sometime, we are so taken up by the glamour of sin that we don't "see" the glory of God. We don't take the time. We think spending time in prayer is wasting time, that is not productive.

We, as Christians, need to "waste" time with God. Of course it is not really wasting time, but we think it is. Nevertheless, we need to spend time with God. Then we will develop a taste and a liking for spiritual things. We as people in general, don't like spiritual things. It doesn't taste very good to us. But if we spend time, even if it feels like we are wasting time, we will slowly but surely develop a spiritual taste. Then, sin will not look so glamorous anymore. Then maybe we will start to desire to go to the Mass more than to the movies, to read the Bible rather than the hottest car or teen magazine, and to read a good spiritual book rather than spend so much time on the internet.

One excellent book I suggest that would help us to develop a taste for Spiritual things is the Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux. The book is called: "The Story of a soul" and is written by her.

The Queenship of Mary
August 22

Following the Feast of Mary's Assumption into heaven on August 15, the feast of her Queenship celebrates her place among the angels and saints as the Queen of heaven and earth.
Hail, Holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus, O Clement , O loving, O Sweet Virgin Mary.

Morning Offering

Lord Jesus,
I give you my hands to do your work.
I give you my feet to go your way.
I give you my eyes to see as you do.
I give you my tongue to speak your words.
I give you my mind that you may think in me.
I give you my spirit that you may pray in me.
Above all, I give you my heart that you may love
In me your Father and all humanity.
I give you my whole self that you may grow in me,
So that is you, Lord Jesus, who live and work and pray for me.
